Abstract
Design and analysis of frequency and pattern reconfigurable microstrip ultra wide band (UWB) antenna operating within the frequency range from 3 GHz to 10 GHz is presented here. Re-configurability of the frequency and pattern is achieved using PIN diodes as switching devices. Eight curved stubs are positioned around the feed line in a ring shape and they can be connected to the feed line using PIN diode switches to achieve frequency reconfiguration to various predefined narrower frequency bands or dual bands. Radiation pattern reconfiguration is achieved while maintaining acceptable gain by placing curved stub sections on the bottom of the substrate and those sections can be connected to the partial ground plane via PIN diode switches. The proposed antenna can be switched among eight frequency bands and seven radiation patterns.
