Abstract

As a kind of reactive power compensation equipment,a synchronous condenser is widely used in High Voltage Direct Current(HVDC) transmission system due to its small influence on the regulation ability and high strong excitation ability. In this paper,the practical state space model of the synchronous condenser is established and the parameters of the model are calculated. The linear quadratic regulator ( LQR) Controller for excitation system is designed and the controllability and stability are analyzed. In order to verify the voltage support ability and dynamic response performance of LQR excitation controller,the simulation is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results show that the grid voltage fluctuation can be quickly quelled and the strong excitation function of synchronous condenser is quickly exerted.
