Abstract

This study presents a highly efficient, isolated, LLC resonant DC-DC converter for electric vehicle charging, using the control strategy namely Frequency Modulation (FM). The steady state and transient state performance of the converter under a wide range of input and output conditions was analyzed. A comparative performance analysis of the conventional hard switching DC-DC converter and the resonant DC-DC converter was conducted. The LLC resonant DC-DC converter gave promising results in terms of higher efficiency, lower power dissipation and better EMI performance. The LLC resonant converter presented in this work is designed for wall charging application of an electric motorcycle in a domestic environment.
