Abstract

Reflective liquid crystal displays (LCDs) attract considerable interest for being light and having low power consumption. We proposed a new type of reflective LCD mainly comprising a hybrid-aligned nematic LC layer, biaxial retardation films, a light-diffusing film and a mirror electrode. This new type of reflective LCD has the advantages of high resolution owing to the mirror electrode and wide viewing angle because it is designed using the same concept as the OCB mode. In this paper, we describe the optimum conditions for the light-diffusing film used in this new reflective LCD.
