Abstract

A powerful carbohydrate receptor, which can be seen as a “synthetic lectin”, has recently been developed by Davis et al. The meta-terphenyl-based tetracyclic receptor was inspired by carbohydrate-binding proteins, and was designed to provide both polar and apolar contacts to a disaccharide molecule.
