Abstract

Departing from conventional concerns about lowering waveguide bend loss, wavelength dependence of a bending waveguide is investigated and utilized in wavelength measurement. With a beam propagation method, a Y-branch device with an S-bend waveguide is optimally designed as an integrated ratiometric wavelength monitor, which can be employed in wavelength measurement for optical communications and fiber Bragg grating or Fabry-Perot filter based optical sensing.
