Abstract
The aim of this study is to design a renewable energy based hybrid standalone system to supply rural community of village Purtala in India. The solar radiation data obtained from NASA and wind speed data measured at this site are utilized to analyse this system using HOMER Pro. Diesel generator is used in this system as a backup to ensure the reliability of supply and battery bank is used for storage. The energy system is designed to cater for domestic electricity demand of 25 households of the village. The pattern of load consumption of the rural households of the village is suitably modelled and different combinations of hybrid systems are simulated to identify the optimal system based on least life cycle cost. Results show that system comprised of one 6 kW wind turbine generator, a 10 kW diesel generator, battery array and a converter is the most economically feasible system to supply the load demand. In addition to this sensitivity analyses using diesel prices, solar average radiation and wind speed as sensitivity input variables are also performed in this study.
