Abstract

This paper presents a fuzzy logic speed controller (FLSC) for variable speed drives using current-controlled brushless DC motors. The fuzzy logic (FL) approach applied to speed control leads to an improved dynamic behaviour of the motor drive system and an improved immunity to load perturbations and parameter variations. The FLSC is designed using a simple algorithm based on a supposed analogy between the control surfaces of the FLSC and a a given proportional-integral controller for the same application. Simulation results are presented to show the performance of the proposed FLSC.
