Abstract

Metasurface has unique electromagnetic properties, and by combining with a frequency reconfigurable antenna and rotating the metasurface around the center of the microstrip patch antenna in a mechanical manner, it is possible to change the operating frequency and operating frequency band of the antenna continuously. To study the effect of metasurface on antenna performance, a design of frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna based on metasurface is proposed in this paper. This antenna consists of the metasurface, microstrip patch antenna, where both layers of the circular dielectric substrate with the radius of 20mm, the thickness of 1.524mm, and dielectric constant of 3.48 Rogers 4350B. Metasurface unit placed directly above the microstrip patch antenna unit consists of elliptical patches placed periodically in the vertical and horizontal directions. The operating frequency of the antenna is about 5GHz, and by rotating the metasurface around the central metal rod of the microstrip patch antenna. The continuous offset can be achieved in the operating band (S11<-10dB) 4.83GHz-5.64GHz, and the offset is about 810MHz, making the same antenna work in different frequency bands, and the E-plane, H-plane and 3D radiation gain are more significant than 6dB, which is of Critical research significance.
