Abstract

This paper presents a methodology for the design of flying capacitors for multilevel inverters. It is based on the harmonic representation of the switching functions, so that it is possible to design the flying capacitors for different operation points. Experimental results are provided to verify the presented analysis. The proposed methodology is developed for the five-level Flying Capacitor Converter and for the five-level Stacked Multicell Converter, but it can be expanded for both types of converter with a higher number of output voltage levels or for other topologies.
