Abstract

This work describes optimum FIR compaction filter design for a given input power spectral density (psd), number of channels M, and a filter order N using lag windows. Energy compaction is an essential concept in signal-adapted data and image compression, subband coding and principal component analysis. The proposed method does not involve any nonlinear and linear optimization tools but the achieved compaction gain is very close to the optimal ones.
