Abstract

This paper presents an energy harvesting system with a charge-collect controller (CCC), which efficiently accumulates electrical energy from a piezoelectric device (PEZ). The proposed CCC comprises an 8:1 series-parallel capacitor bank and voltage supervisor. The voltage supervisor operates with voltage fluctuation of specific nodes in the capacitor bank. Meanwhile, the capacitor bank is designed to transfer and store charges to a backend converter by dividing the voltage from 40 V to 5 V or lower. Also, the proposed capacitor bank can transfer charge effectively by implementing various series and parallel capacitor array combinations. The proposed system is implemented with a 180-nm BCDMOS process.
