Abstract
Recent ecological concerns have resulted in an increased demand for natural materials. Recyclability and environmental safety are becoming paramount factors in determining the sustainability of the products. Green Composite is one such material leveraging natural fibers and bio resins for the attainment of cent percent biodegradability. Also, the cheaper cost and reduced weight offered by green composites over its traditional counterparts have bolstered its stronghold in the current market. Bearing this in mind, the current work aims to design and fabricate an eco-friendly smartphone holder using green composite, that is both durable and affordable. Various methods in a product development process such as the market analysis, customer need identification through pareto charts and House of Quality (HoQ), concept generation using mind maps, SCAMPER, and morphological chart and the selection process utilizing Pugh Chart are performed to arrive at the final conceptual design. The integration of TRIZ methodology also ascertains the significance and perks of using composites as the substitute material. Design for Manufacturability and Sustainability is also carried out for selecting the optimal fiber-bio resin combination and associated manufacturing process to ensure supreme competency from a sustainable standpoint.
