Abstract
A dual band substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) with cavity backed planar slot antenna are proposed. The presented antennas adopt a combination of two SIW cavities of different size through coupling window. The placement of U-shaped slots helps to generate multiple hybrid modes which can be tuned by changing slot dimensions. Two SIW cavities loaded with U-shaped slots are used to excite four closely arranged hybrid modes in C band (4–8 GHz) to realize dual band response. The compact HMSIW structure antenna even shows a better performance while reducing nearly half size of the SIW antenna.
