Abstract

When a lateral line is designed for a uniform slope situation, a dimensionless design parameter ΔH'/ΔH (a ratio of total energy gain by downslope ΔH' to friction drop ΔH at the end of line) can be used to determine the pressure profile and maximum pressure difference Δh,max along the line. Graphical solutions and mathematical equations were derived for determining the maximum pressure difference, Δhmax. A design length can be determined directly by using the developed designs charts. The developed design procedure can also be used for upslope (uniform) situations.
