Abstract

This work depicts a dual band microstrip antenna with linear polarization and single line feed. The designed antenna is resonant at 2.44 GHz and 5.57 GHz for WLAN and WiMAX application respectively. The dual band mechanism is achieved by combining two U-shaped patches on a same plane and finally forming an inverted F antenna through modifying the length of patches. The simulated S(1,1) parameter of the designed dual band antenna are -39.125dB and -41.073dB. The designed antenna has 10dB impedance bandwidth of 833 MHz (2.621-3.094 GHz) and 550 MHz (5.482-6.032 GHz) respectively to cover WLAN and WiMAX operating bands. Advanced Design System (ADS) software was used to design and simulate the performance characteristics. The designed antenna in this work has shown improved return loss, directivity, bandwidth and power efficiency with respect to similar antenna related works.
