Abstract

The characteristics of packet switching data communication networks are discussed briefly and techniques of simulation as a design tool are outlined. Two particular lines of investigation relating to routeing algorithms and flow control are discussed at greater length. The paper was presented at a one-day symposium on Networks, organized by the Computer-Aided Design specialist group of the British Computer Society and held on the 18th March 1974.
