Abstract

This paper presents the design of a compact arbitrary power division ratio 1800 hybrid coupler using multiple open complementary split ring resonators (OCSRRs). The slow wave effect of the transmission line is greatly improved by embedding multiple OCSRRs. Transmission line embedded with three OCSRRs and open stubs is proposed to replace the low impedance lines and the transmission line embedded with only three OCSRRs is proposed to replace the high impedance lines of the conventional 1:4 rat-race coupler. The designed unequal power division rat-race coupler occupies only 15.83% area of the conventional one, with good return loss and isolation performances.
