Abstract

A method of codebook optimization for noncoherent transmission over fast fading channel is presented. Noncoherent reception is considered in a wide sense when the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) is not available, but statistical properties of the CSI are known. Proposed approach is based on an autoencoder network that simulates end-to-end operation of communication system. Signal reception algorithm implemented in the network is based on generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT). Obtained codebooks show good performance in fast fading channel and provide diversity effect if the signal is sufficiently long. Power loss at slow fading does not exceed 0.7 dB. When GLRT receiver is not matched with actual Doppler spread of the channel, obtained codebooks still demonstrate good results with power loss not exceeding 2 dB.
