Abstract

In Part 1 of this paper, GaAsP Schottky barrier photodiodes were shown to be superior to silicon-based devices in terms of high current linearity and noise performance. In this paper, GaAsP devices are also shown to have significant advantages over silicon in terms of UV stability and radiometric performance when used with optical filters. Metal-dielectric interference filters (MDIFs) and glass absorption filters (GAFs) also have acceptable UV stability. A seven-channel UV radiometer for use in a space environment simulation facility and which uses GaAsP photodiodes in combination with MDIFs and GAFs is described.
