Abstract

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is widely used in low power and low cost applications such as RFIDs. This paper presents a UWB receiver based on energy collection with on-off keying (OOK) modulation. A novel synchronization and detection algorithm using energy offset based scheme is investigated and proposed. This novel synchronization and detection scheme aims at reducing power consumption and simplifying hardware complexity of the UWB receiver. Simulation results and FPGA implementation are given, which reveal that the UWB receiver using proposed scheme can avoid complex and power consuming synchronization blocks, and reduce the preamble length in synchronization process, whereas maintaining performance in the target level.
