Abstract
Theoretical results for the buckling of aluminium columns having longitudinal and local transverse welds are presented. These are used to assess the suitability of the procedures given for column design in the draft British Standard for the use of structural aluminium BS 8118. As a result some modifications to these procedures are suggested.
