Abstract

A hyperspectral light source based on light pipe is proposed with attributes of compact size, uniform illumination, and versatility. Theoretically, the deflection angle for off-axis LEDs is introduced as a parameter to adjust the uniformity. Besides, by deriving the planar irradiance distribution relationship for a tilt incident source, the flip-n-fold approach is extended to analyze the proposed layout structure. Experimentally, a system with 27 independent narrowband is optimized, fabricated and verified for uniformity illumination. Furthermore, two additional capabilities are also demonstrated, including: extending illumination area by repeatedly splicing identical light pipes, and color-mixing to simulate wideband spectrum such as sunlight.
