Abstract

A novel low-profile wideband dipole antenna on a tapered artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) ground plane is proposed. A tapered AMC ground plane consisting of strip dipoles with different lengths is designed to increase the bandwidth of a dipole antenna placed right above it. The lowest frequency, where the destructive interference becomes dominant and the main beam in broadside direction starts to split, can also be increased with the proposed tapered AMC ground plane. Consequently, the 3 dB bandwidth of the realized gain of the proposed antenna with a modified tapered AMC ground plane is almost twice wider compared to that with a uniform AMC ground plane.
