Abstract

In this paper, the design of a tri band slot antenna for L1 band of Global Positioning System (GPS), and two bands i.e. 3.5 GHz and 5.4 GHz of Worldwide interoperability for Microwave access (WiMAX) is proposed. The antenna consists of a rectangular slot with an area of 48 × 18 mm2. To provide different band of frequency, a T-shaped feed patch and an inverted T-shaped stub is used. The tri band is studied and designed using computer simulation with the aid of Ansoft HFSS design. The simulated result show that the antenna can be designed to cover the frequency band 1.52 to 1.6 GHz for the GPS System, and wide band of 3.06 – 3.99 GHz and 4.9 – 5.7 GHz for the dual band of WiMAX application. The proposed antenna is fabricated on a 0.8 mm thick substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.4. The paper includes the simulated results of return loss, VSWR and radiation patterns at all resonant frequencies.
