Abstract

The design of a tunable quantum cascade laser using intracavity non-linear interactions to enable wavelength conversion is reported. A quantum cascade laser in strain-compensated In0.7Ga0.3As/In0.4Al0.6As is designed to emit at 4.76 µm, with third harmonic and second harmonic generation at 1.59 and 2.38 µm, respectively. It is estimated that 88 nW of third harmonic signal is generated for 100 mW laser fundamental power.
