Abstract

The Ridgetron is a type of rf accelerator that can be used for electron irradiation. The traditional ridgetron is based on a “cylinder-shaped” resonant cavity having multiple accelerating gaps operating in the TE110 mode. In this study we propose a racetrack-shaped cavity to improve its microwave efficiency. Although the Q of the racetrack cavity is lower than that of a cucurbit cavity, we find that the shunt impedance and R/Q are both higher.
