Abstract

Leakage inductance (LI) of a power transformer can function as an inductive element of the oscillatory circuit in resonant converters. Theoretical analysis shows that design is best when the necessary series inductance is provided by LI of that winding which is connected to a capacitive element of the oscillatory circuit. The LI of the other winding should be minimal. 3 advantages are gained at the sane time: exclusion of a resonant reactor, and reductions of core losses and transformer overheat. This is not always possible in high voltage and/or high potential converters. However, also for them, taking certain precautions, use of LI gives good results. The experimental check shows validity of the theoretical analysis. >
