Abstract

High acceptance fragment separators for secondary beam facilities require large aperture quadrupoles close to the production targets. These quadrupoles are exposed to high levels of radiation. We present designs for superferric quadrupoles based on radiation tolerant Cable-In-Conduit-Conductor (CICC) coils that have lifetime limits set by the superconducting materials. CICC coils using both stainless steel and aluminum conduits are described and small-scale coil fabrication presented
