Abstract

ABSTRACT AS the cost of conventional fuel sources escalate, use of alternative energy sources becomes more attractive. Design parameters for a peanut drying system using solar heated water are presented. System performance with different levels of design parameters were simulated using a modified version of TRNSYS. For average season weather data and practical system parameters, a collector area of 128.6 m2 and tank volume of 22.2 m3 could provide 50% of the energy for drying one wagon of peanuts (4.72 Mg) using a 3-day schedule. Data are presented for modifying estimates of system performance based on heat exchanger parameters.
