Abstract

Scientific programmers are eager to exploit the computational power offered by Distributed Memory Parallel Computers (DMPCs), but are generally reluctant to undertake the manual porting of their application programs onto such machines. We demonstrate that a purely sequential object-oriented language can be used to build parallel libraries that permit an efficient and transparent use of DMPCs. As an illustration, we discuss the design of an extensible object-oriented parallel linear algebra library.
