Abstract

A study has been performed to design a new sputter ion pump (SIP) using adequate axi-symmetric spindle magnetic field instead of dipole field, which reduces continuous loss of electrons (plasma) and confine them for longer time through magnetic mirror action. So, it enhances the density of electron cloud (plasma) in the discharge region between the electrodes. Construction of a new compact SIP is envisaged adopting the new design. Simulations of magnetic field using the commercially available permanent magnet and electric field inside the chamber together with simulation of electron and ion motion in such field are presented and discussed in the paper.
