Abstract

Wireless home automation networks (WHANs) comprise wireless embedded sensors and actuators that enable monitoring and control applications for home user comfort and efficient home management. This paper designed a new simple and practical smart home system based on WHANs. Our system includes three layers: (1) The WHANs layers. This layer consists of all kinds of sensors(temperature and humidity sensor, light sensor, on-body medical sensor, etc.), a router which is made up of ZigBee and WiFi, and controller. (2) Communication networks layer. This part deals with information transfer. From this layer, remote control can be realized. (3) Remote/local controller (terminals). The terminals can control this system depending on the information collected by several types of sensors that monitor parameters such as temperature, humidity, light, and presence. Unnecessary waste of energy can thus be avoided. The effectiveness of our designed system is proved via some practical application cases.
