Abstract

Compared with the conventional hydropower generation unit, the pumped storage unit is more difficult to control because of its frequent switching of working conditions and S shaped characteristics. To solve the problem, a fractional-order PID (FOPID) controller is designed for a PSU in this study. Furthermore, the FOPID controller multiple objectives parameters optimization with considering simultaneously different operations conditions are proposed to improve the adaptability for environment and working conditions changing. The classical multiple objectives particle swarm optimization(MOPSO) is employed to make a trade-off between these objectives. The experiments of multiple objective controller parameters under different water heads has been conducted. The experimental results indicate that the FOPID controller shows significant advantages over the PID controller, meanwhile the multi-conditions adaptive FOPID has shown better adaptability and robustness for working conditions changing.
