Abstract

This work presents a zeroth order resonant (ZOR) antenna. The antenna is based on the metamaterial transmission-line and consists of a single unit LC cell made using microstrip transmission-lines. A systematic approach is followed to realize the single cell ZOR antenna for any desired resonant frequency. The shunt inductor is realized using a meander line microstrip structure while the series capacitance is obtained through an inter-digital capacitor. Using the design approach, a uniplanar ZOR antenna is designed on FR4 substrate which operates at a frequency of 8.34 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 12% and occupies an area of 15 × 15 mm2. The prototype is fabricated and good agreement is found between the measured and simulation results.
