Abstract

The initial generation of communication is designed on the basis of optical communications but later electronics came into the picture as electronics are better for handling the data due to the logic circuit’s concepts. For this specific purpose, in electronics, several diodes, transistors, and other devices are proposed that help electronic communication be more accurate, reliable, and user-friendly. Keeping this in mind in this paper, we have designed a simple structure of an optical diode (OD) for photonic circuits. We have employed a 3-D liquid crystal structure and various non-linear polymer organic materials are utilized to achieve high transmittance for the forward direction and low transmittance for the backward direction. By employing this structure of the OD, we have observed the forward light transmittance of 90% and in the reverse light transmittance of only 5% are attained. The main reason behind these remarkable results is that the structure is demonstrating total internal reflection and absorption. The proposed OD demonstrates the diode characteristics that can be applied to the highly efficient and low-cost photonic circuits.
