Abstract

In recent times usage of renewable energy sources is emphasized through various technologies that are enhanced due to the shortage of conventional sources like coal, fossil fuel, etc. The high gain DC-DC converter is preferred for the conversion of low voltage which is obtained from PV/ wind energy systems to high voltage with less voltage stress on controlled power switch. In this paper, sudden (step) change in input voltage is shown as the energy that is obtained from PV/ wind energy systems is not constant throughout the year. Here in the simulation the input voltage is varied from 9V to 21 V. Suitable selection and implementation of a coupled inductor topology are introduced which leads to improving the efficiency compared to the conventional DC-DC boost converter for sustainable operation in the long run. This topology is designed and simulated in MATLAB / SIMULINK platform. Here the simulation is done for sudden change in load wattage (240W and 300W) and output voltage of the designed converter is kept nearly constant at 240V by the implementation of closed-loop control of the converter. It can be fed directly to the inverter for AC power generation which can be used for household appliances. Here coupled inductor is used in the proposed topology instead of transformer as it is more efficient and cost effective.
