Abstract

Compact cylindrical cavity resonators (CCRs) are proposed by loading metallic sector mushroom metamaterials exhibiting high quality factors. One such metamaterial CCR is considered with radius of 20mm and height of 10mm. It is numerically demonstrated to resonate at nearly 2.6GHz with the quality factor of nearly 1830. These properties are equivalent to a CCR loaded with a hypothetical dielectric with ε <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">r</inf> = 4.86 and tanδ = 0.00035. The low loss level is however very difficult to find from the practical material library.
