Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to propose a compact circular planar monopole UWB antenna. This paper also discusses techniques to enhance the higher cut-off frequency of the UWB antenna. It is carried out by introducing different slots on the partial ground plane. The proposed antenna was designed and fabricated on a FR-4 substrate of dimensions $25\mathbf{mm}\times 20\mathbf{mm}\times 1.6\mathbf{mm}$ . This antenna operates in the 3.1GHz to 10.64GHz band that includes FCC unlicensed spectrum of 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. The proposed antenna attains an impedance bandwidth of 7.54GHz, highest peak gain of 4.34dBi at 10.6GHz and a maximum radiation efficiency of 96.77% at 3.1GHz. In this paper, initially a conventional design of circular planar monopole UWB antenna is presented. Later, through methodical optimization process a UWB antenna is proposed, which is again optimized to improve its return loss and bandwidth by introducing various slots on the ground plane. Lastly, the antenna was fabricated and then measured, simulation results were validated.
