Abstract

This paper proposes a 2-element dual-band MIMO antenna with circular polarization (CP). The antenna can operate at two 5G bands, 3.6-3.8 GHz and 4.8-5.0 GHz. The MIMO arrangement consists of two single elliptical shaped nonuniform width slot antennas. The unequal feed line mechanism is used to sense CP where two parallel L-shaped arms of different length are employed to attain dual-band. Reduction of the surface wave coupling is achieved by inserting three strip lines on the ground plane between the antenna elements by applying defected ground technique. The antenna provides good isolation (less than -20 dB) and CP radiation in both bands. Hence, envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) and channel capacity loss (CCL) are less than 0.0005 and 0.05 b/sec/Hz, respectively. These results prepare the MIMO antenna suitable for 5G wireless applications.
