Abstract

A compact pulse generator with the peak output current of 3 kA is designed for the pulsed current injection test. It consists of four parts, namely, a 3-stage Marx generator, peaking circuit, a control system and a current divider. The Marx Generator is charged by a +70 kV high-voltage DC source. The peaking circuit is utilized to further reduce the rise time of the Marx generator output waveform. The manufactured generator achieves excellent performance in terms of stability and adjustability, the output current waveform under a 60 Ω resistive load has a rise time of 17 ns, full width half maximum of 540 ns and current amplitude from 10 A to 3kA.
