Abstract

Abstract Novel 60° bent ridge waveguides with several layers of hexagonal-lattice dielectric cylinders around the bend corners are proposed in this paper. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations show that just one or two layers of cylinders on the hexagonal array are sufficient to assist in turning the guided wave into the 60° bending section. On the other hand, more than three layers of hexagonal-lattice cylinders may result in larger optical reflection such that less power reaches the output port.
