Abstract
This paper presents a methodology for designing optimal flexible process sequencing using SFC (sequential function charts) based approach. In this approach SFC is used as a unified framework for representing the optimal process sequence by detennining the optimum condition for transition between two macro steps, completing the flexible manufacturing cycle at the minimum cost. Dynamic programming has been used to find the optimal trajectory, in which a strong correspondence with its sequential function chart is stated.
