Abstract

AbstractEffects of cross‐linking agent (TAIC) and plasticizer (PEG) on stereocomplex‐type poly(lactide acid) (sc‐PLA) formation and heat resistance properties were conducted. Both homochiral poly(lactide acid) (hc‐PLA) and sc‐PLA formed in poly(L‐lactide acid) (PLLA)/poly(D‐lactide acid) (PDLA) blend. After cross‐linking, both enthalpy and Tm of hc‐PLA or sc‐PLA in cross‐linked PLLA/PDLA blends all decreased with TAIC content increase. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) analyses indicated that sc‐PLA crystallites exclusively formed, without any hc‐PLA as the result of the further incorporation of more than 5 phr PEG plasticizer. Heat resistance properties were analyzed through thermogravimetric analysis and vicat softening temperature. Results indicated that chemical cross‐linking improved the heat resistance of PLLA/PDLA sample. Moreover, lower concentrations of plasticizer PEG contributed to further improve the heat resistance of cross‐linked PLLA/PDLA. The influence of TAIC and PEG on the thermal stability of PLLA/PDLA was also investigated using DSC.
