Abstract
This work presents a new design of the uniform half-width microstrip leaky-wave antenna (HW-MLWA) array to achieve high radiation in the broadside direction. Realizing the main beam radiation of one broadside is difficult for uniform MLWA. The proposed design comprises the two elements of HW-MLWA placed at 180°, and this array is fed by a single probe in the center of two elements. One element of HW-MLWA is investigated for comparison and analysis with the proposed antenna array. Two elements are generated to combine the main beams, resulting in one beam in the broadside direction with high gain and good matching impedance. Finally, the proposed antenna is fabricated and tested. A good agreement is found between simulation and measurement results. The measured impedance bandwidth is 10.75% (4.4–4.9) GHz, and the maximum measured gain at broadside is 10.02 dBi.
