Abstract

The owners of private airplanes have high expectations when it comes to the comfort inside the cabin. The interior of a business jet is crafted to feel like a luxurious office space where its occupants can focus on their work or relaxation without the distractions or fatigue caused by excessive wind, engine, or mechanical noise while in flight. Choosing the right Thermal Acoustic Insulation System (TAIS) to accomplish this goal is most often a balancing act between competing priorities such as system weight, ease of installation, cost, and acoustic performance. Here, we will describe our methodology to balance these objectives using an iterative approach leveraging Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) at its core. Examples from business jets will demonstrate the effectiveness of standardized kits bearing their own supplemental type certificates (STCs) including those for Dassault and Gulfstream aircraft. Further examples will illustrate the customization possible on VIP aircraft with TAIS installed on larger planes from Airbus and Boeing.
