Abstract

The aerodynamic and acoustic characterization of the upgraded aeroacoustic wind tunnel facility at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies is documented. The facility is configurable between the redesigned open-jet test section and the newly-designed hybrid test section with Kevlar walls. The performances of both test section configurations, including the flow uniformity, turbulence intensity, and background noise, were measured. The results demonstrate that the new wind tunnel facility is capable of being used for high-accuracy aeroacoustic experiments. The performance of the new facility compare well with existing hybrid wind tunnels documented in the literature. The characterizations obtained will be used to determine the aerodynamic and acoustic corrections that will be applied in future experiments.
