Abstract

A FlexRay to CAN converter node is used to migrate from FlexRay network to CAN network. Conventional gateway approach is software based and sequential [10]. Addition of a new node will lead to changes in the wiring of the complete network as per the new protocol. Present approach is hardware based to facilitate multiple events to occur concurrently. Conversion is achieved by meeting the timing parameters of FlexRay. In order to convert one protocol to another the complete parameters of the protocol are to be mapped to the new format and parameters. The mapping of FlexRay protocol message in static and dynamic segment's are discussed. FlexRay cycle period and transmission of critical messages handled by CAN to guarantee transmission over static segment is also discussed. The CAN to FlexRay converter node is developed in verilog. The design is verified using reusable verification environment built with reusable components designed using system verilog or verilog. Prototyping of the design is done using Altera cyclone IV device and validated.
