Abstract
A cargo tank system is a fundamental part of a liquefied gas carrier, establishing the principal design features. For the independent tank systems, a prismatic tank system or a spherical tank system is generally adopted. In parallel with design improvement of such tank systems, the development of a new tank system has been investigated. In this paper, a trial design of the cylindrical tank for a 75,000 m3 LPG carrier is described. Its strength is estimated under stress, buckling and fatigue. Thermal analysis is also performed.
