Abstract

In this paper, a brief analytical study of start oscillation current of reltron source has been discussed. The device design methodology of the reltron is described in detail and subsequently used for the design of a reltron using commercial PIC code CST Particle Studio. RF cavity simulation is performed in the absence of electron beam to show the electric field patterns in the three different modes, i.e., 0, $\pi $ /2, and $\pi $ , in the modulating cavity. In order to evaluate the overall performance of the device, beam present simulation is performed using explosive electron emission model and obtained an RF output power of $\sim 225$ MW with $\sim 36$ % efficiency. The simulated results have been found in agreement of $\sim 5$ % with the previously reported experimental value.
